Smartt Cloud
Digitalising India’s Medicine Supply Chain: The Web & Mobile Platform We Built for “Smartt cloud”
Client Overview
Smart is an Indian B2B wholesale medicine ordering platform built to digitise the entire pharma distribution chain — connecting pharmacies, chemists, distributors, wholesalers, stockists, and manufacturers through a single operational platform. Operating across 500+ cities in India and trusted by 200,000+ retailers, Smart handles everything from digital ordering and catalog management to payment tracking and delivery workflows. With 15,000+ distributors, 300,000+ unique SKUs, and 100,000+ integrated ERPs, the platform sits at the heart of how modern India buys and sells medicine.
Challenges
A Complex Industry Running on Outdated Processes
- India’s pharmaceutical distribution chain was — and in many places still is — heavily dependent on phone calls, paper orders, and manual follow-ups between retailers and distributors.
- There was no unified digital platform where retailers could browse a verified medicine catalogue, place structured orders, and track fulfilment in real time.
- Distributors had no efficient way to manage incoming orders, approve requests, control pricing visibility, and coordinate deliveries from a single place.
No Mobile-First Solution for Retailers
- Retail pharmacies and chemists — the end buyers — had no dedicated mobile application to place orders on the go.
- Without a mobile app, the ordering process remained slow, error-prone, and dependent on human intermediaries at every step.
- There was no way for retailers to search substitutes, compare margins, view scheme offers, or track outstanding payments from their phone.
No Web Platform to Represent the Product
- Smartt cloud had no professional marketing website to present its platform, communicate its value proposition, or onboard new distributors and retailers at scale.
- There was no structured way for potential partners to understand the product’s features, download the app, or access the admin dashboard.
- The absence of a credible web presence made it harder to establish trust in a sector where reliability is everything.
Payment & Credit Visibility
- Outstanding invoices, credit windows, and payment histories were being managed manually — creating confusion, delays, and revenue leakage across the distribution chain.
- Neither retailers nor distributors had a transparent, real-time view of their payment status and dues.
Solutions
Web Platform — Built with Next.js
- Developed a fast, modern marketing and product website using Next.js, built to communicate Smart’s platform capabilities clearly to distributors, retailers, and potential partners.
- Designed a structured page architecture covering the homepage, product features, blogs, careers, and contact — with a prominent admin dashboard login and app download CTA embedded throughout.
- Built a clean, conversion-focused UI that communicated scale immediately — 200K+ retailers, 500+ cities, 300K+ SKUs — making the platform’s credibility visible at first glance.
- Integrated an admin dashboard sign-in flow, enabling distributor-side operators to log in, manage catalogs, review orders, handle payments, and control delivery workflows from the web.
Mobile Application — Built with React Native
- Delivered a cross-platform mobile application for Android (with iOS coming soon) using React Native, giving retail pharmacies and chemists a native-grade ordering experience on their smartphones.
- Built core retailer features including a 2 lakh+ product search catalogue, medicine substitute finder, real-time margin visibility on every order, scheme and offer browsing, outstanding payment tracking, and credit window management.
- Implemented a drug license upload flow to onboard new retailers quickly and compliantly — reducing friction at the very first step of the user journey.
- Built a structured cart and checkout experience showing MRP, PTR, distributor discount, GST breakdown, and margin per order — giving retailers full pricing transparency before confirming any purchase.
- Developed an order fulfilment workflow for the distributor side covering order review, approval, dispatch, and delivery management.
Results
Platform Delivered
- Complete Next.js web platform and React Native mobile application delivered
- Web platform live with all pages, admin dashboard login, and app download integration fully functional.
- Android app live on the Play Store with the full retailer ordering experience — product search, cart, payment tracking, substitute finder, and scheme offers — all operational on day one.
Adoption & Operational Impact
- Retail pharmacies and chemists across Smartt’s network gained their first structured mobile ordering experience, replacing phone-based and manual ordering with a clean, app-driven workflow.
- The drug license upload onboarding flow significantly reduced the time required to activate new retailers on the platform, accelerating network growth.
- Distributors began managing incoming orders, approvals, and payments from the admin dashboard — reducing manual coordination and improving fulfilment speed.
- Real-time margin visibility on every order gave retailers the confidence to place more orders and explore higher-margin products — directly impacting average order value.
Scale & Engagement
- The substitute medicine finder became a key engagement feature — retailers who previously lost sales due to out-of-stock items could now instantly find and order alternatives without leaving the app.
- Outstanding payment tracking and credit window visibility reduced payment disputes between retailers and distributors, improving cash flow across the chain.
- The web platform began attracting new distributor sign-ups and partnership enquiries, with the clear feature presentation and admin login CTA converting visitors into active platform users.
- Blog and careers sections on the website supported Smartt’s positioning as a serious, growing technology company within the pharma space.
Ecosystem Growth
- With 500+ cities already covered and iOS coming soon, the platform is positioned to scale its retailer base well beyond the initial 200K+ mark.
- The combination of a professional web presence and a fully functional mobile app gave Smart the digital infrastructure needed to approach larger distributors, institutional partners, and investors with confidence.
- The admin dashboard and mobile app working in sync created a closed-loop B2B ecosystem — from order placement to delivery to payment — that removes friction at every stage of the pharma supply chain.
Key Success Factors
Conclusion
India’s pharmaceutical distribution chain moves billions of rupees worth of medicine every single day — and for decades, it has done so through a tangle of phone calls, paper slips, and manual reconciliations. Smartt cloud set out to change that. What we built — a professional Next.js web platform and a fully functional React Native mobile application — gave the digital infrastructure it deserved. Retailers can now order from 2 lakh+ products on their phone. Distributors can manage their entire operation from a dashboard. Payments are tracked, margins are visible, and substitutes are a tap away. This is what it looks like when technology meets a real, urgent problem in a sector that is ready for change. And this is exactly the kind of work we exist to do.
